Our Story

Who is Eddy?

Eddy was the heart behind Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue.

He came to us as a 12-year-old senior dog after being rescued from the streets of Hamilton. From the moment he arrived, we knew he was home. Despite everything he had endured, Eddy chose love. He embraced his new life with quiet gratitude, gentle kindness, and a spirit that touched everyone he met.

Our chocolate Labrador, Maverick, quickly took on the role of Eddy's protector and companion. The two were inseparable, and watching their bond reminded us of the incredible resilience and capacity for love that dogs possess.

Eddy was the kind of dog who made everyone smile. He was calm, affectionate, and endlessly gentle, yet he also had a playful side. He proudly lived up to the nickname "Fast Eddy," convinced he was the fastest dog around, no matter what his age said.

What made Eddy truly unforgettable, though, was the look in his eyes. They reflected a soul that had experienced hardship and trauma, yet still chose trust, hope, and unconditional love. He taught us that a dog's past does not define their future—it simply makes their second chance even more meaningful.

We were incredibly fortunate to share two wonderful years with Eddy. During that time, he changed our lives and left a lasting impression on every person who had the privilege of meeting him.

When Eddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we knew his story couldn't end there. His legacy deserved to live on. Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue was created in his honour—a rescue dedicated to giving every dog, regardless of age, breed, or past, the same chance that Eddy was given: to be loved, to belong, and to find a place to call home.

Every dog we rescue carries a piece of Eddy's legacy with them, reminding us why we do what we do and inspiring us to never stop believing in second chances.

Behind the Rescue

We’re Taryn & Cody.

We didn’t start Eddy’s Nomads because we had some big plan to run a dog rescue.

We started it because of a dog named Eddy.

Eddy came into our lives as a senior foster, and somewhere along the way, “foster” turned into family. The time we had with him changed the way we looked at rescue and showed us just how much a second chance can mean to a dog who needs one.

When it came time to figure out how we could carry that forward, Eddy’s Nomads was born.

We’re just two people who love dogs, love our community, and believe that sometimes helping one animal can create a ripple effect much bigger than you expect.

Our travels have also played a big part in shaping what Eddy’s Nomads has become. Seeing dogs and rescue organizations in different places — and meeting people who dedicate their lives to helping them — gave us a different perspective on what rescue could look like back home.

We wanted to build something local.

Something that helps the dogs already living in our communities and supports the people trying to do right by them.

That means safe rehoming, fostering and adoption, behavioural support and training, food assistance, veterinary care, community outreach, and sometimes simply helping someone through a difficult situation so their dog can stay where they belong.

We want to be the kind of rescue that shows up.

For the dogs that get overlooked.

For the owners who need a hand.

For the fosters who open their homes.

For the volunteers who give their time.

And for the community that makes all of this possible.

Eddy may have been the reason this started, but every dog we help adds another chapter to his story.

That’s what Eddy’s Nomads means to us.

A little bit rescue. A little bit community. A whole lot of heart.

Loyal to the Lost.

What Does "Loyal to the Lost" Mean?

"Loyal to the Lost" is more than our slogan - it's the promise behind everything we do.

To us, "the lost" are the dogs who have been abandoned, neglected, surrendered, forgotten, or simply waiting for someone to see their worth. They may have lost their home, their family, their confidence, or their sense of safety, but they have never lost their value.

Being loyal means we don't give up when things get difficult. We stand beside every dog through rehabilitation, medical care, training, and the journey to finding the right home. We believe every dog deserves patience, compassion, and someone willing to fight for their future.

"Loyal to the Lost" also represents our commitment to the people who open their hearts to these dogs—our fosters, adopters, volunteers, veterinarians, trainers, donors, and supporters. Together, we're building a community that refuses to leave any dog behind.

Inspired by Eddy, whose own journey showed us the incredible resilience of dogs and the life-changing power of a second chance, we carry his legacy forward every day.

No matter where a dog comes from or what they've been through, our promise remains the same:

We will always be loyal to the lost until they find where they truly belong.

FOR THE LOST. THE FORGOTTEN. THE OVERLOOKED.
