Our Story

Who is Eddy?

Eddy was the heart behind Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue.

He came to us as a 12-year-old senior dog after being rescued from the streets of Hamilton. From the moment he arrived, we knew he was home. Despite everything he had endured, Eddy chose love. He embraced his new life with quiet gratitude, gentle kindness, and a spirit that touched everyone he met.

Our chocolate Labrador, Maverick, quickly took on the role of Eddy's protector and companion. The two were inseparable, and watching their bond reminded us of the incredible resilience and capacity for love that dogs possess.

Eddy was the kind of dog who made everyone smile. He was calm, affectionate, and endlessly gentle, yet he also had a playful side. He proudly lived up to the nickname "Fast Eddy," convinced he was the fastest dog around, no matter what his age said.

What made Eddy truly unforgettable, though, was the look in his eyes. They reflected a soul that had experienced hardship and trauma, yet still chose trust, hope, and unconditional love. He taught us that a dog's past does not define their future—it simply makes their second chance even more meaningful.

We were incredibly fortunate to share two wonderful years with Eddy. During that time, he changed our lives and left a lasting impression on every person who had the privilege of meeting him.

When Eddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we knew his story couldn't end there. His legacy deserved to live on. Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue was created in his honour—a rescue dedicated to giving every dog, regardless of age, breed, or past, the same chance that Eddy was given: to be loved, to belong, and to find a place to call home.

Every dog we rescue carries a piece of Eddy's legacy with them, reminding us why we do what we do and inspiring us to never stop believing in second chances.

General

What is Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue?

Eddy's Nomads Dog Rescue is a foster-based rescue inspired by our senior rescue pup, Eddy. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and thoughtfully place dogs while building a compassionate community that believes every dog deserves a second chance.

Where are you located?

We are based in Sarnia, Ontario, but our foster homes and rescue efforts extend across Southwestern Ontario.

Do you have a shelter I can visit?

No. We are a foster-based rescue, which means all of our dogs live in volunteer foster homes where they receive love, care, and socialization until they find their forever families.

Adoption

Where can I see your adoptable dogs?

Our available dogs can be viewed on Petfinder.ca, where you'll find photos, biographies, and information about each dog's personality, needs, and adoption requirements.

If you see a dog you'd like to learn more about, simply complete an adoption application through our website. Our team will review your application and contact you if it appears to be a good match.

Because we are a foster-based rescue, some dogs may not be publicly listed immediately while they settle into foster care and complete their assessment.

Why isn't every dog listed on Petfinder?

Some dogs need time to decompress and settle into their foster homes before becoming available for adoption. During this period, we assess their personality, behaviour, medical needs, and ideal home so we can make the best possible match.

We encourage you to check our Petfinder page regularly, as new dogs become available throughout the year.

How do I adopt a dog?

Complete our online adoption application. Once received, our team will review your application, contact your references, and arrange a meet-and-greet if it's a good match.

How do you decide who adopts a dog?

We don't believe in "first come, first served." We focus on finding the best match for each dog's personality, needs, and lifestyle to create successful, lifelong adoptions.

Can I meet a dog before adopting?

Absolutely! Once your application has been approved, we'll arrange a meet-and-greet with the dog and foster family.

What is the adoption fee?

Our adoption fee is $600 per dog.

Are your dogs vaccinated and spayed/neutered?

Every dog receives age-appropriate veterinary care before adoption, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, and spay/neuter when medically appropriate.

Do you know if a dog is good with children, cats, or other dogs?

Our foster homes help us learn each dog's personality and behaviour. We share everything we know to help make the best possible match.

Fostering

Why should I foster?

Fostering saves lives. Every foster home creates space for another dog in need and gives that dog the chance to decompress, learn, and prepare for adoption.

What does Eddy's Nomads provide?

We provide veterinary care, support, guidance, and ongoing communication. Depending on the foster arrangement, we can also provide food, supplies, crates, and other essentials.

You can make a financial donation, purchase merchandise, donate supplies from our wish list, attend fundraising events, become a monthly supporter, or volunteer your time.

Owner Surrenders

I need to surrender my dog. Can you help?

We understand that surrendering a pet is never an easy decision. We ask that owners complete a surrender request so we can learn more about the dog and their needs.

Will my dog go into a foster home immediately?

Because we are foster-based, we can only accept dogs when an appropriate foster home is available. Our priority is ensuring every dog is placed in the right environment for their success.

Do you assess dogs before placing them?

Yes. Every dog receives an assessment to help us understand their personality, behaviour, medical needs, and ideal foster or adoptive home.

Community

How else does Eddy's Nomads help the community?

Our commitment goes beyond rescue.

Whenever possible, we work to keep pets with the families who love them by connecting owners with education, resources, and support before surrender becomes the only option.

We're also proud to work alongside the Pet Pantry, located at Tanglz Hair Salon, helping provide pet food and essential supplies to families experiencing temporary hardship. We believe that no family should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved pet.

By partnering with local businesses, veterinarians, trainers, volunteers, and community organizations, we're building a stronger, more compassionate community where people and their pets can stay together whenever possible.

How can my business partner with Eddy's Nomads?

We love working with local businesses! Sponsorships, donation drives, fundraising events, employee volunteer days, and product partnerships all help make a difference.
